Spring Wall Art “Boston Strong, America”
Images from my Americana Posters collection. Today is the day we celebrate a big day in American history. So I thought I’d offer some wall art, Americana poster art that helps remind us of our own history and heritage.
America…”My Country Tis of Thee, Sweet Land of Liberty…of Thee I Sing…”–How may of us sing this verse at all, these days? We might do ourselves and our children a favor to remember May 8, 1945. 75 years ago TODAY we celebrated this date. If those who have come before us had not been willing to pay the ultimate sacrifice, we would likely be speaking German…or perhaps Russian, today. Most who died were young, between 18 and 24, I’m told– not all, but the vast majority. I find it useful to read about this period of time. I look back with some amazement at moments of my own youth when my dad would explain to me the meaning of photographs in the famous book, “Life’s Picture History of World War II.” Photos in that book remain in my consciousness, today. They also inform my understanding of aspects of human nature that remain indecipherable.

Thankfully, the country is…as if, waking up, now. For weeks we’ve been hunkered down, at home for many hours out of every twenty four…have we not? People want out. People want to work, people have to work, people are driven to work. We must feed our children…and ourselves. Hats off to the Texas woman, Shelley Luther, who defied the judge and kept her hair salon open…and in accordance with guidelines issued the the State. We remain mindful. If you’ve read about the Pandemic of 1918, you have a sense that the “second wave is out there.” Easy does it. Personally, I am overdue at the barber shop and bakery.
