Spring Wall Art, “Battle Hymn of the Republic” at Memorial Day
What an odd, profoundly different this Memorial Day was. Amidst a global pandemic, a national health crises, a tanked economy, lots to ponder and worry about, and yet, the spirit of this country rang thru in so many ways. I haven’t see so many memorable scenes of life in these United States as was true this weekend– when I was not outside walking, or gardening, or tending bees.
Most appealing to me were the photo essays on first-line health responders, then on our military men and women, their families, then reflections on all those soldiers who in our history have paid the ultimate sacrifice, and fallen. Our country seems to be in a very introspective mode, this Memorial Day, and I for one take deep satisfaction in it.

The Nation has taken a big breath for months, and yet, we stopped to honor our soldiers on Memorial Day. We have suffered as a people for weeks and weeks, many of us with little to no voice about the general state of affairs, whatsoever. And yet, Monday afternoon at 3:00, across this nation, TAPS Across America rang out as musicians everywhere picked up their horns as if on signal and played as one. I was fortunate to see this promoted beforehand, on a Sunday morning TV show, Sunrise, on CBS– or frankly, I may never have known about it. How powerful and moving it was. Thanks to all the musicians who at the appointed minute, participated.

Here are images from my Americana Print collection, I call Americana. This collection began with the horrors of 9.11.01. I continue to build it out. Here are some examples of iconography, typography and verse I find reflective of our Nation and our history– and a good guide for navigating the future as it unfolds. I like this American Revival expression, personally.
Pulse across America! Thank goodness, people are demanding we return to work, our enterprise, our means of income, our dreams, our futures, our national economy– despite all the dire prognostications of death and destruction, despite all the computer data and modeling, despite all the (continuing) political shenanigans, for many of us, this year on Memorial Day was memorable, for many of the right reasons in my opinion. So let’s crank it up, now. We must go to work and back to our lives.
Faith, family, love and work…I confess, I am still overdue for a haircut, but fortunately, I’ve visited the bakery twice. This, I can probably forego. < grin > I notice that in Rhode Island, while the strip clubs are open, the liquor stores, the marijuana enterprises– all deemed “essential,” in order to go to a funeral you have to limit your crowd to ten. And stranger still, if you want to go to church, you must limit your crowd to five, assuming you can find one that is open. Signs of the times– yes, we want to protect each other, and ourselves…but the unfolding of the whole thing is worthy of someone’s writing a good script, some day.
With this post you are invited to take this opportunity to explore all sections of George Delany Art, prints of various visual themes: Instagrams, Photos, Drawings, Paintings and Americana Posters.
I call your attention on GeorgeDelanyArt…try two neat features on my site: The first– WALL Review, a capability that visualizes your art selection in your specifications as seen in different settings; living room, bedroom, sitting room, conference room, these sorts of things, as referenced, above. Secondly, the L I V E Augmented Reality feature that allows you to see your chosen art work on YOUR wall…in your setting. Pretty exciting stuff. This is my “business advice,” for the week– in addition to your families, treat your job, work, income the same way Momma Hens treat their chicks. In the chicken-coop of life, rebirth is happening, now.
