Winter Wall Decor, “Momma Hen in Waiting“
As Valentine’s Day approaches, we begin to receive our annual seed catalogs, the days lengthen, Spring seems to be more consciously in mind…so what may be better than an image to hang that is all about the passing of Winter and the arrival of Spring? Here is “Momma Hen in Waiting,” first painted in acrylic on an ordinary wooden shingle from which these prints are made available. This high-quality, digital print uses a white, 3″ matte and a flat Cherry wood frame to make it stand out on the wall.
This series of chicks is based on our own flock, one we maintained for years in the basement of our barn. Roosters, Hens, Chicks, we had a wide variety including Rhode Island Reds, Barred Rock, Silver Laced Wyondottes, Buff Orpingtons and Cochins and “exotic species” we purchased via USPS from a Kansas farm, Murray McMurray. Our local post man would call at 7:30 am to announce, “Your Chickens are here!” We ordered about 25 birds at the time. Another joyful day…underway.

This is my “business advice,” for the week: To that special someone in your life…with Valentine’s Day just around the corner…time to devote some thought. In a time of pandemic when so many people are cooped up, constrained by uncommon health concerns of one kind or another– on this day, Valentine’s Day, may each of us find time to pay attention to what is most important in our lives, or more importantly, who. How do we honor this person? We have the rest of the year to honor business colleague and friends for their accomplishments, achievements and exploits. But on Valentine’s Day, the focus changes to the one who is most special, the one who may be the greatest source of inspiration and strength. We get to pay attention, to acknowledge, to be thankful! Happy Valentine’s Day 2021.
