Winter Wall ArtPreAmble

Don’t you just love this opening phrase, “We the People…of the United States”? What could be more inspiring, most especially when seen in the context of Canadian friends witnessing their most essential freedoms cut down on a whim like so many exhausted corn stalks in September. And then, the follow-up phrase is equally inspiring, and astonishing, “...in order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, ensure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common Defense, promote the general welfare and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.” What a Constitutional Convention that must have been, back in 1787. Doesn’t it resonate loudly, even today? In honor of President’s Day, yesterday, here is my version in graphic form, of the PreAmble to the Constitution of the United States.

Question for you: Have you ever purchased a graphic print? Giving art, giving prints can be a joyful experience! When I give a print, it most assuredly is a joyful experience– most especially during the “Drearies” of February.

Buy a print every now and again, one that moves you. In our ongoing pandemic period, what better way to celebrate than…with a winter art print…a lighthouse print, perhaps, or a poster with a patriotic theme, not a bad gift choice for a friend or relative, post President’s Day.

“Business Advice” for day: Today has to be a sad day for millions of our friends and neighbors in Canada. Today has to be a tragic day for many Ukrainians. Today has to be a foreboding day if you live on Taiwan. Today has to be a frightening day if you wake up in parts of Chicago or in other, similarly troubled American cities. Today has to be an infuriating day if you live along the American side of our southern border. The world is in a fix. Russian soldiers are moving into Ukraine as this is written. We have been advised by one journalist that our long-established world order is now being altered, deliberately, and that we must gird for what is to come. I find this to be a generally true statement, and to reflect a perspective I share. “Gird,” is right. We’re girding all around, in my world. As something of a mild anti-dote, reading these Founding Documents that so vigorously, imaginatively and even courageously reflect the genius of our Founding Fathers…is uplifting and reassuring. We recommit to these ideals. We recommit to these visions. We recommit to these principles. We recommit to these foundational mythologies. We pray for our leaders and our citizenry. We the People must gird now– it is no laughing matter, seems to me.
